This blog features tips for improving your business follow-ups and increasing the conversions from sales prospects to happy customers.
Our recent SBA Radio guest, Wanda Allen, is an expert in helping entrepreneurs, business owners and salespeople enhance relationships, increase client retention and become more referable by understanding the importance of effective follow-up. Wanda was a business banker for about 25 years and has had extensive training on business development, maintaining client relationships and customer service. She is the author of Follow Up Savvy and a Senior Manager with SendOutCards.
In this interview the host, BizVid’s Caz Taylor, and guest expert, Ruben Garcia, District Director of the Small Business Administration, have Ms. Allen provide tips from her popular book, Follow-Up Savvy.
This segment should help business men and women understand why they may be struggling with poor follow-up practices. In this interview, Wanda offers an action plan to help improve follow-up efforts immediately.

Caz Taylor with (automotive) JD Power and (financial) Diamond Awards
San Diego video production company, BizVid Communications would rather reflect our years of experience through our body of work. Even so, once in a while, it is of value to showcase our partners to illustrate their depth in video, and related fields of marketing, PR and advertising. Co-owner Caz Taylor is the company’s scriptwriter/producer. He has worked in broadcast production and advertising more than 30 years. Serving as vice presidents over creative supervision and client services, he has developed many award-winning campaigns. Those include JD Power & Associates recognition for an automotive broadcasting strategy and around a dozen Diamond Awards, which are the highest financial broadcasting and marketing honors within the credit union industry.
During his tenure as Marketing VP at U.S.E. Credit Union, one of America’s large cooperatives, Caz and his team were awarded an amazing eight Credit Union National Association “Diamond Awards” in a single year. These distinctions represented the top marketing honors among this type of financial institution. These national “best of” awards covered a vast array of disciplines, including Broadcasting, PR, Annual Reports, Point of Sale, Outdoor, Internal Marketing, Segmented Marketing and Complete Campaigns.
As a Creative and Client Service VP at several predominant advertising agencies through his career, Mr. Taylor has accumulated a vast knowledge and understanding in the development of powerful campaigns to showcase clients of all types and sizes. In these roles, he was honored with the JD Power & Associates Award for best broadcasting on behalf of Car Country Carlsbad, in final destination auto mall advertising.
BizVid’s love for helping small businesses, led Caz to host and produce a weekly BizVid-sponsored radio broadcast entitled SBA Radio. For more than two years, he has been joined by guest expert Ruben Garcia, District Director of the Small Business Administration.
Caz is also a prolific author, with two published books, numerous articles and guides to his credit. One of his books was a sci-fi novel and the other was a Christian study book. He also writes a monthly column entitled “The Praise Report” for a San Diego publication entitled Good News Etcetera Newspaper, distributing to about 40,000 readers.

Bill Gruber taping at Spirit West Coast
As the San Diego Video Production leader, BizVid Communications shines the spotlight on one of the two partners. Meet Bill Gruber and observe his amazing accomplishments. One other attribute to Bill is his humility. As his partner, he’s likely to be upset with me for publishing this… but, hey… we needed a blog topic.
Bill Gruber is founder of BizVid Communications, a production firm specializing in short and long form video / audio programming. He brings to his company extensive experience in audio/video production and management. As producer/director for many of its projects, his talent has been recognized by his peers who have conferred upon him several Emmy and Telly Awards.

Some of Bill's career accomplishments
Early in his career, Mr. Gruber co-founded Film House International, a multi-media film and audio production company. The firm focused primarily on national film and multi-track recording projects. He also co-founded the nation’s first religiously programmed cable network called Christian Communications Network (CCN). As its General Manager / Executive Producer, he was responsible for all day to day operations.
His success at CCN prompted media giant Cox Communications to hire him as General Manager of Channel 4 and Director of Programming. While at Cox, Mr. Gruber was in charge of the department budgets as well as the many live and taped productions required on a weekly basis. Most programs were in studio but many were on location.
After several years with Cox, cable pioneer Bill Daniels asked Mr. Gruber to lend his expertise to the development of Box Seat, a Southern California regional sports network. As its Vice President of Network Operations and Programming, he was responsible for budgets and was active in program acquisition and production. Box Seat became the Fox Sports Network.
Mr. Gruber’s skill set is in management and production. His list of credits includes local, regional and national training videos for various corporations as well as long form programming. He has produced/directed telethons, interview programs, documentaries and consumer videos for many persons and corporations.
Mr. Gruber’s expertise has attracted the attention of many industry organizations. He is past president and lifetime member of the San Diego Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences; served on several advisory boards; guest speaker at national trade shows including the NAB, NRB and NCTA; guest lectured at San Diego State University and UCLA. In 2007 he was voted into the Television Academy’s “Silver Circle” for 25 years of contribution to San Diego television.
Mr. Gruber earned his Bachelors degree from San Diego State University in Radio/TV. He has been married to Brenda for more than forty years. They love to travel.

Caz and Daphne Taylor with Bill and Brenda Gruber at our literal "board" meeting in Ohau, Hawaii
Eight days on the island of Ohau, January 2012. This became the site of our literal “board” meeting. Find out what it looked like with the adventurous Bill Gruber and Caz Taylor from BizVid Communications, as well as wives Brenda and Daphne. Snorkeling, surfing, ATVing, Luauing (lew-WOW-ing), and “outta sight” sightseeing. Come along we put our new smartphone video software to work.
DAY ONE
We board Hawaiian Airlines to begin our journey to Honolulu, Hawaii. Upon arrival, we drive to the windward side of the island known as “North Shore.” After settling into our beach front accommodations, we start enjoying the remarkable environment.
DAY TWO
Today we leave for our escorted visit to Pearl Harbor. This tour will take us to the very spot of the attack. “The Memorial Tour”- A morning at Pearl Harbor, where we will stand aboard the Arizona Memorial, the site that began WWII and then board the battleship USS Missouri or “Mighty Mo” where the war ended.
DAY THREE
Relax is the word of the day for today. Our objective is to explore the North Shore to visit some of the famous surfing spots to see if the “surfs up.” It is this time of year that the “big ones” pummel the North Shore. We will stop at Wiamea Bay as well as Sunset Beach, the Banzi Pipeline.
DAY FOUR
Following breakfast, we drove to the world famous 42 acre, Polynesian Culture Center where we will experience the native lifestyles and habitats from centuries ago. Pacific cultures come alive to reenact war dances and wedding ceremonies, rub sticks to create fire, carve tiki figures, and climb four-story trees in bare feet. We will also experience the Canoe pageant.
DAY FIVE
We return to Waikiki, the South Shore where we’ll visit Hanauma Bay for snorkeling, the Blow Hole, Sandy Beach, Sea Life Park and we will return via the Pali. This also may be a wonderful evening for a catamaran ride launching from world famous, Waikiki.
DAY SIX
Today we motor to the Kualoa Ranch located on the northeastern side of Oahu.Established in 1850, Kualoa is a 4,000-acre working cattle ranch, spread from the steep mountain cliffs to the sparkling sea. Once there, we will mount our All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) for a tour. We will ride through dense rainforest to broad open valleys and from beautiful white sand beaches to verdant cliff faces. It is truly a paradise for outdoor recreation with many places accessible only by horseback, ATV or hiking. By the way, if the views look familiar, that’s because Kualoa has been the site of many television shows and Hollywood films such as Jurassic Park,Wind talkers, Pearl Harbor, Godzilla, Tears of the Sun and 50 First Dates as well as TV shows including the old and new Hawaii Five-O, Magnum P.I. and LOST.
DAY SEVEN
We say “goodbye” to the cottage and motor to Honolulu and the Queen Kapiolani Hotel, our accommodations for the evening. This evening, we will cap off our visit to Hawaii by attending a Germaine’s luau (Hawaii’s original), chosen “Hawaii’s Best” by the readers of Honolulu Star Bulletin. We will enjoy food, and entertainment including a spectacular Polynesian Revue and Samoan Fire knife Dancer.
DAY EIGHT
Today we leave the hotel for our trek to Honolulu International Airport and back to San Diego. What a remarkable trip.

SBA Radio with BizVid's Caz Taylor and SBA's Ruben Garcia
As the San Diego video production leader, BizVid Communications has an ongoing relationship with many small businesses and small business resources. One of our great pleasures is to work with Ruben Garcia, District Director of the Small Business Administration in San Diego and Imperial Counties. For over two years, BizVid has joined forces with the SBA’s Garcia and wsRadio to produce and host the SBA Radio show, providing insights and assistance to small business owners and employees. The following video illustrates some of the products and services offered by the Small Business Administration as presented by Ruben. The SBA is a federal agency and has locations throughout the nation.
Every week Ruben Garcia and Caz interview guests with tips and innovations to help small businesses. Sometimes we’ll speak of the newest branding ideas to help a business grow. Other times we’ll forewarn of workers’ comp issues or offer search engine optimization tips. Often, we’ll bring in well-received economists to provide business forecasts , or copyright lawyers, or international entrepreneurs. The one hour show is broadcasted live nationally, on Thursdays at 11 am, Pacific Time. This program gives Garcia a platform and an opportunity to declare the values of numerous SBA small business loans to thousands of loyal listeners. We spend a great deal of time featuring entrepreneurs and resource providers to provide directives and support to small businesses during these challenging economic times.
From our ongoing relationship, we’ve come to realize how well connected Ruben is, as we interview government leaders, along with CEO’s of predominant companies in the United States and Mexico. If the reader is tied to a small business in any way, it would be of value to check out the resources and relationships that the SBA offers. A quick visit to their website will reveal many opportunities for growth and education.
