As a leading San Diego video production company, BizVid Communications is frequently called upon to shoot documentaries. We created one such documentary while in Guatemala back in 2010 to highlight the terrible living conditions many citizens are subjected to. Our client was the visionary and humanitarian, Enrique Molina. Consider Guatemala’s natural beauty, blended into a society where justice, peace and health can prevail. If you can comprehend these things, you won’t be far from Ciudades Luz, translated “City of Light.”

Following is some of the scripting from which our powerful video was built.  “Poverty devastates the spirit, soul and body of a person, rendering them into an echo of what they could have become. It is something that most would rather look away from, than look into. This is a story of hopelessness with a happy ending. Few understand the hardships of millions of people whose lives are lived day in and day out in substandard conditions. It is a lifestyle where dignity has long given way to doing whatever it takes to survive.Slums, dirty, stacked housing, south america

As part of our documentary, we recorded a day in the life of Esperanza. As a single parent, her social status and low income forced her into nearly impossible living conditions. Not long ago, Esperanza’s son was shot to death in an unprovoked shooting. It is a tragedy shared by too many other families in these depressed neighborhoods. Esperanza’s need to survive allows little time for private grief.

Having no plumbing, she must take the tiring trip for water every morning before work. Because her work is far from home, Esperanza must drop off her children early, before taking her two hour truck and bus ride to work in a more acceptable part of the city.

Ciudades Luz replaces the day to day drudgery of a life of poverty with a lifestyle of hope and dignity. The workplace is only minutes from the residence, allowing for more time with the family. Esperanza joins other low income individuals who work for Ciudades Luz or one of many companies moving into that community. These organizations will draw their workforces from low income workers.

Bizvid Communications was honored to play a role in introducing this development to many who could catch the vision and support such a noble cause.Bill Gruber, Caz Taylor, documentary, south america
