Welcome to another video blog from BizVid Communications.  Today I am standing in the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency in Dallas, Texas, where we’ve just concluded a wonderful convention, a four day convention of the Student Television Network.  The Student Television Network is an association that attracts high school and middle school students from throughout the country and Hawaii.  The schools they attend have broadcast and journalism programs of which the kids are a part.

Once a year, teachers and their broadcast/journalism students converge upon the convention city.  This year it is Dallas, last year, Orlando and next year Los Angeles.  They come together to learn about their more about more about their field of study from those who do it on a daily basis.

So what do they do at the convention?  They have contests.  One, for example, is titled “Sweet 16.”   In this contest, the students are given a subject…same subject for all, and then have 16 hours to write a script, shoot and edit the video and get it to the judges on time.  The winning school is announced during the closing ceremony and the video is shown.  There are other contests where they produce music videos and commercials. Again, each school given the same subject.  This year Hurley sponsored the commercial contest so each school did a commercial for Hurley.

Also during the four days there were 82 breakout sessions conducted by various speakers and professionals.  CBS, CNN and other heavyweights were here to share their knowledge and have one-on-one exchanges with the students.  At BizVid Communications we contribute our time, as well.  So, like the other pros, we come free of charge, to lend our expertise and give something back to the next generation of media professionals.  That makes us feel good.
