Producing a Multi-Camera Video Shoot
Hi and welcome to another BizVid Communications video blog. As a San Diego video production company we are sometimes called upon to produce and shoot live events requiring multiple cameras…sometimes as many as five. And of course, with the cameras comes the personnel to run them. They are often referred to as “shooters.” But in a live situation camera’s and shooters are just one part of the equation. Other elements include audio, lights, staging etc. etc. These elements require a central command called the control room and a director to coordinate all of the elements.
From this command center, the director has a visual on each camera, ears on the audio and an eye on the video levels of each camera. It’s the director’s job to coordinate all of it so that at the end of the day, there is a video or broadcast that makes sense to the viewer. We thought it would be fun to give you a first hand look inside a video control room as the production unfolds. What you are about to see is an actual taping of a live event.
As you can see, there is quite a lot to manage. This particular production was for the new Dr. James Dobson “Family Legacy” series and it was fun to do. Be sure to visit the rest of our blog site for more videos on other aspects of our production business. Have a great day and thanks for joining us.
Right you are Nick. It’s so much more cost-effective to be able to call it all from the show floor and have a nearly finished piece by the end of the day. :)
