SBA Radio is produced by BizVid Communications, a leading corporate video production company in San Diego. In today’s blog we’ll shine the spotlight on our guest expert from the radio show, the Small Business Administration’s District Director of San Diego and Imperial Counties, Ruben Garcia.

Ruben has teamed with BizVid in the creation and implementation of this weekly broadcast since its inception over two years ago. As a prominent figure in Southern California, Dr. Garcia has the experience and background perfectly suited to help small businesses.

In the 1950s his father planned to seek an SBA loan from the newly formed federal agency to grow his service station by adding a car wash and hotdog stand. Prior to application, others convinced him that he would not be approved and his vision to become an entrepreneur faded away. Ruben recalls his sorrow upon realizing that his father actually could have received a loan. Armed with that recollection and a remarkable background in Hispanic real estate and the military, Ruben was in the perfect place to accept an SBA position, from an earlier administration, and has served as SBA’s District Director ever since.

A former pastor of about a dozen years has added to Garcia’s sensitivity to the human plight, giving him a compassion to help people generally and small businesses more specifically. Under his direction the San Diego and Imperial Counties continually ranks among the top SBA agencies in the country. He works tirelessly to marry the perfect business loan to businesses in need. In addition to the various loans made available through the SBA, he works with service providers to bring more benefits to the small business community. One such agency is SCORE, a group of retired business executives who freely offer their time and experience to counsel start ups and other businesses on the best ways to succeed.

Garcia is also a wonderful asset to the SBA Radio show. His relationships with quality business advocates span the nation and countless industries. Hear him live on SBA Radio every Thursday, from 11 am to noon, Pacific Standard Time.
